January 13, 2016

Foxconn plans to double its smartphone capacity at the Andhra Pradesh factory in India from one million to 2.5 million per month by end-2016 and add 1,000 staff to its existing workforce of 6,000 employees, reported the Times of India on January 12. The company is now a contract manufacturer for a list of clients who get smartphones made locally, including Xiaomi, Oppo, Gionee, ASUS, Microsoft, and Infocus. By increasing capacity, Foxconn aims to make India a manufacturing hub for markets across Africa and West Asia. Aside from facilities in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, Foxconn intends to  scale up its presence  in India by establishing 10 to 12 facilities, including factories and data centers, by 2020.
